Rich in history, the Blackburn Inn and Conference Center was originally conceived nearly two centuries ago as a medical hospital for rest and tranquility, designed by famed architect Thomas Blackburn—a protege of Thomas Jefferson. Today, the historically renovated nineteenth-century building and its more than eighty acres of rolling lawns have been meticulously transformed into an elegant boutique hotel, which reopened in June 2018.
Offering 49 rooms, a three-story full-service spa, and the popular Second Draft Bar and Bistro, The Blackburn Inn successfully leverages its unique past and prime location—just steps from Downtown Staunton—to attract guests and host large events, making it a cornerstone of the region’s hospitality and a significant contributor to local tourism and revenue.
The Conference Center and The Spa at The Blackburn Inn had their grand opening in September 2020. These buildings were constructed in 1865 and originally served as a laundry facility for the main hospital. A variety of events are now hosted in The Great Hall and Gallery 1828.
“At The Blackburn Inn we will create a home away from home for both guests and visitors and celebrate the history of Staunton and our historic site.”
Robin Miller, Owner of Blackburn Inn
